retro 1950s shower

last week i made a quick trip to kansas city to visit my family and go to quite possibly the best wedding shower ever :-)
it was so much fun visiting with family, running errands, shopping and prepping for the party.

all of the aunts decided to throw courtney a retro shower.
it was very fitting since the bride is pretty much a current day version of june cleaver.

it was a blast helping them with all the little details that they knew courtney would notice and appreciate.

{aunt kathy, aunt mimi, courtney, aunt joan aka mom, aunt sue}

the bride-to-be loves to bake.
in the invitation we received a card with instructions to write a blessing and attach an old family cookie cutter to pass down.

my mom made a cute bag for her to keep all her cookie cutters in.
i love this bag.
crossing my fingers for one of my own someday!
*wink*

what do you keep your cookie cutters in?
wouldn't you love a cute little bag with a birdie to pull out while you're baking.

the shower was decorated with red and turquoise
milk glass and gerber daisies
vintage pot holders and cookie cutters

all things 1950's
even the menu was a flashback that went with the theme
we had such a lovely meal

chicken salad, deviled eggs, cucumber tea sandwiches, jello fruit salad, hawaiian sweet rolls and some delicious homemade sugar cookies {soon to share the recipe}.
mmm raspberry lemonade and iced tea.

these cookies are absolutely to die for! the sugar cookie recipe is my grandma's and they are perfectly chewy and crisp with the right amount of thickness.
they are frosted with love by my sister with 'the best butter cream' frosting.
mmmm so delicious. you should be jealous.
i think i probably ate two four.

It was a joy to be able to be there and shower the bride 'the ole fashioned way'.
We are so excited for you two to finally be one!
